Artist number 1 Laurie

We are starting something new today. From this week on we will present you artists that we find interesting and ask them a few questions. This month the questions will mostly be the same but you can be sure that the answers are pretty different. So be sure to tune in every Monday and find out about our weekly Artist. Hope you enjoy.

Laurie aged 29 from Saint-Denis near Paris, France a tattoo artist and body piercer for now 10 years.
What makes Laurie’s work for me so interesting, even though I haven’t seen her tattoos live, is that all the things she draws come to life. She manages to capture movement and a kind of rhythm in her paintings, no matter if paper or skin.

Here are the Questions we asked Laurie and the Answers she gave us.

1..Do you visit art museums? If yes got any favorite ones?

Yeah, i visit them. I am lucky we have a lot in Paris. I love the Museum of Rodin, a famous French sculptor.I love the way he shows the beauty and deep feelings in his art. I also love the Louvre but it is very very big and unfortunately full of people, which prevents from visiting very well..

–What is Art for you?

Art is a way to show what your heart means. For me, it is the Heart language in a way.

-2. Why is art important in life?

Without drawing I would keep many things inside of me. I need to draw to evacuate a lot of feelings as I am not a very open person. I do not speak about myself easily. Art is vital to my mental health.

-3.Where would you like to be in 5 years?
I don’t have plans. I just wish I will still be improving my art and skills. I don’t wish anything else than being always better.

4.-What was the experience that impacted you the most in life?
I loved tattooing women who suffered from cancer or skin problems. Problem’s that prevented them from showing their body. They were ashamed. The tattoos made them feel confident again, this was a big reward for me.

5.-Do you follow your heart or head and why?
I follow both of them because, in my opinion, you can’t make anything good and durable without both of them. Being impulsive does not make things deep.

6.-Have you got a favorite quote?
Live where ever you want but die where you are supposed to.

7.-Where do you go when you need inspiration?
I don’t need to go anywhere. I just turn on the radio or tv, take my pencil and paper and draw. I just don’t like silence when I draw, even if I don’t listen to properly.

-8.What is the best advice you have been given?
People have always told me you have to be happy when you go to work. That is why I chose to tattoo. I draw
and work at the same time.

-9.What is one thing you want to cross off your bucket list but couldn’t?
I don’t have a bucket list. I believe in destiny and surprises. Time will tell.

10.-Choose a superpower and explain why.
I would love to fly. Because I like adrenaline and I envy birds. This would allow me to visit a lot of places, as well as my family in Tunisia that I don’t see enough.

11.-What makes you feel unstoppable?
Art makes me feel unstoppable. There are no limits to art.

12.-If you had to change your name what would it be?
I would take a name that could be boyish and girlish. Like Jo or Taylor many others. I like the neutral names.
They are mysterious and sexy in a way.

13.-What makes you feel most alive?
My son and husband, as well as my art. They are all my vital fluid.

14.-What is your philosophy?
Live fully but think before you act too. Regrets hurt as well as bad decisions.

15.-What is an ideal weekend for you?
My son, my husband, pencils and paper, hot coffee and good a good movie.

16.-What are you most thankful for in life?
I am thankful to destiny. I was lucky enough to be able to do my job and meet my husband. I am very lucky.

We hope you enjoy our new Idea for Mondays. That way we learn a lot from Artists around the world and about their art.
